With the housing market showing signs of being the biggest bubble since the Dutch went mad for tulips in 1637, I'm realising that I might not get to live the suburban australian dream. It's not that I yearn for a house in zone three spending two hours each way driving to and from work yelling at my fellow commuters while listening to talkback. Instead I've been daydreaming of getting a small bit of land in the country with a modular prefab house overlooking some natives while I go grid free and watch the world choke to death. But until I get my act together and start saving I'm going to have to live vicariously for a little while longer.
Leading the charge in letting me live out my fantasy world is ARKit, who have trucked in one of their modules on display at the ACCA forecourt as part of the Design Festival. We had a little poke around here on the weekend and the green credentials for these things are out of the world, with varying levels of self sustainability depending on your choice of lifestyle. Being modular they can be connected and stacked any way you want. The trick? It's all in the individual panels, which are the core of the buildings: structurally and conceptually. The inclusion of a small green roof was a neat trick as well, as was climbing up the stairs to get there. Now I just need to start thinking about saving.
I poured my dad a glass of what looked like a very refreshing juice and took it out to him.
