The print museum being in the paper yesterday jogged my memory about the last time this sort of thing happened. A few months ago Kate Moss had her logo designed by Peter Saville, which somehow made its way to the tabloids, which then filtered its way down to ninemsn. I was at the printing museum minding my business when we got a phone call from a journo who wanted to ask some questions about it to a "typography expert". She's obviously googled typography and melbourne together and got us somehow, which I still think is pretty funny. After having a look at her new logo online I sprung into fame inspired action and called her back.
Now, the funny thing about answering questions from someone who has no idea about this kind of thing, is that I didn't really know what to say, or how to answer her questions. How detailed do you go? How in depth a typographic language does one use? While I was lucky to recognise that the typeface used was an unreleased Alexey Brodovitch face, I couldn't really explain it to the common folk. I also realised that anything and everything you say can and will be quoted, so you better be articulate; which I wasn't.
But still, it was funny to be quoted as saying that a typeface 'is nice'.
The font poll was hysterical, and I really regret not screencapping it. The choices were Arial, Times, Comic Sans and a few other microsoft word fonts. Surprisingly, Times was in front by a fair bit.
WHERE'S THE LINK?!?!
I won't believe you till there's a link.
